Rozmic takes on extra staff for email venture

A TECHNOLOGY firm is taking on staff as it launches a new email service which aims to protect businesses from spam, viruses, phishing, and email threats.

Gateshead firm Rozmic says it is appointing five workers at its base as it launches Email Cloud as well as seven sales managers, four for England and one each for Scotland, Wales and Ireland to handle general sales growth. Each sales manager will supervise up to 10 sales consultants who will recruit and service resellers.

The company said it has forged a partnership with web shop Amazon that will give it massive processing power at a fraction of the traditional cost. Rozmic are Amazon User Group Leaders, meaning rather than buy expensive servers, the firm is able to utilise spare processing capacity on Amazon servers.

Rozmic managing director Ross Cooney said: .The spam problem is growing exponentially and is costing business billions of pounds worldwide. It is tremendously exciting to offer a complete solution developed here in the North-East. We believe this is the most effective, and thanks to our partnership with Amazon, cost effective anti-spam solution available today.

.In the past we would have made a massive capital investment in servers on three continents. Now, we draw down processing power from Amazon where and when it is needed. We really believe this is the solution to a problem facing all businesses large and small . the flood of unwanted spam..

In early November Mr Cooney is set to visit Australia to establish an Asia Pacific data centre and appoint a sales director for the region. The Australian operation will complement the firm.s data centres in Gateshead, Ireland and Toronto, Canada.

And also last year the company got a six-figure investment to take its communications system to a world stage.

The North-East Equity Matching Fund (NEEMF), managed by enterprise agency Entrust, backed the company by match funding £100,000 provided by private investors.

Ending spam plague, Rozmic protects leading estate agent Sanderson Young

A leading North East estate agent has found the answer to mounting email spam and the threat of viruses on its doorstep. Sanderson Young has offices in Gosforth. The Quayside, Ponteland, Alnwick and Mayfair, London.

Managing Director Duncan Young became concerned that his 65 staff were spending up to half an hour every morning identifying, then deleting unsolicited spam emails that had arrived from around the world during the night. Spam would continue to arrive during the working day causing frustration as tasks were interrupted

Every Monday morning two days and three nights worth of junk email would arrive on staff desktops. The problem was compounded since genuine property vendors or seekers would write unusual headers into legitimate email. The header .My dream home. could as easily be from someone wishing to relocate to the North East as from a spammer selling US securities.

Duncan Young says;

    .I found many of my staff were starting their day wading through unsolicited offers from a wide range of spammers worldwide. This would cause frustration at the start of the day and since it took on average half an hour to deal with, it was costing the company money. Something had to be done..

Sanderson Young turned to Rozmic Spam and Virus Firewall, a unique anti-spam and virus system launched worldwide in September 2006 by Gateshead based Rozmic Wireless.

The Rozmic Spam and Virus Firewall is installed on a dedicated server located in Sanderson Young head office and all email is scanned before it reaches the recipients desktop. All Rozmic Spam and Virus Firewall servers are monitored in real time by technicians around the world so data and statistics from all companies using the system help build a pattern of traffic.

This means Rozmic can predict, and prevent spam or virus attacks as they happen. If, for example one thousand users send the same attachment from PCs around the world, Rozmic will know something is wrong and head off the attack.

Ross Cooney, Managing Director with Rozmic Wireless says:

    .Rozmic Spam and Virus Firewall was developed here in the North East and we are always delighted to work with clients in our region. The exponential growth in spam means the more successful a company, the higher its web profile, the worse the problem will get. Now Sanderson Young employees can concentrate upon what they do best rather than spending time fielding questionable spam offers..

In 2003 Ross Cooney setup Netcleanse and Gwavix, the driving technology behind Rozmic Spam and Virus Firewall and one of the most effective spam and virus protection systems on the market. In 2005 Ross Clooney setup Rozmic Wireless Ltd, a software development company specialising in data transfer and mobile communications. Rozmic Wireless built up a team of talented developers and released their first set of products in May 2006.

"Business Class" Instant Messaging Opens Up Worldwide Market for Rozmic

Rozmic is set to revolutionise business communications with the launch of a 'Business Class' Instant Messaging (IM) service.

Gateshead based Rozmic Wireless has developed Rozmic Messenger having identified the need for organisations in both the private and public sectors to support collaborative business processes securely.

Research indicated that IM is the best way to accelerate new forms of collaboration and communication among distributed workforces. The system increases productivity as e-mail inboxes swell with spam. Large and remotely distributed teams require continuous real-time communication, but public access IM systems present a security risk which is unacceptable in business.

Ross Cooney, Managing Director, Rozmic Wireless says;
"We felt that the market cried out for business class IM services. IM is the primary communication tool for social networks, now it has been given a face-lift and taken into the enterprise."
One of the first companies to adopt Rozmic Messenger is Newcastle and Leeds based J.R. Holland Group, one of the largest wholesale fresh food distributors in the North East of England. With over two hundred employees in five locations the IT Department knew they needed a real-time communication system to keep everyone connected. In addition to speed, they needed security, manageability and low maintenance overhead.

John Holland, Owner of JR Holland Group said;

"Instant messaging is used extensively by various departments for quick communications that cannot wait for an email reply. It's frequently easier to reach someone through IM than by telephone. With Rozmic Messenger we gained communications security, found that installation was easy and maintenance has been virtually nonexistent. The stability and user friendliness of the product have made it an easy sale to our staff."

In addition to secure communications Rozmic Messenger allows users to see who is online, and exchange messages with them. Files can be transferred more quickly and securely than via email and the system operates from any PC, laptop, hand-held device and some mobile phones.

Ross Cooney estimates the market potential for Rozmic Messenger to be huge. Within two years Rozmic Messenger will create six new jobs here in the North East and a further ten in the company's Canadian offices.

Rozmic Wireless Ltd, a software development company specialising in secure data transfer was incorporated in 2005 by Ross Cooney and Robin Mackie with the help of Nstar Finance, Entrust and a number of private business angels. The company has released three products and opened offices in Gateshead and Toronto.

Rozmic Wireless has developed Rozmic Messenger having identified the need for organisations in both the private and public sectors to support collaborative business processes securely.

Research indicated that IM is the best way to accelerate new forms of collaboration and communication among distributed workforces. Ross Cooney, Managing Director with Rozmic Wireless says;
"We felt that the market cried out for affordable business class IM services. IM is the primary communication tool for social networks, now it has been given high security coupled with an easy interface and taken into the enterprise."

Robin Mackie, Chairman of Rozmic says:

"Research has shown that workers want immediate answers, and waiting for the turnaround on a typical email often feels excruciatingly long. Public access IM can help speed this process up but it comes with several problems, including security, viruses and inappropriate usage."

In addition to secure communications Rozmic Messenger allows users to see who is online, and exchange messages with them. Files can be transferred more quickly and securely than via email and the system operates from any PC, laptop, hand-held device and some mobile phones. Rozmic Firewall protects IM from malware, hackers and viruses.

Sean Sollom , Lead developer at Rozmic says;

"Corporations are starting to see the benefits of IM through enhanced customer relations and substantial cost-savings. Given IM's advantages I can see it becoming a major part of the enterprise communications suite. In the same way email gained ascendancy over fax a decade ago, so we believe it is only a matter of time until IM gains ascendancy over email".

No? How about learning the secret of eternal life for just $99?

Still no? Well, neither do I, nor do the millions of others who fire up their email each day to find it littered with countless offers to buy questionable shares or treatments for erectile disfuncion.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t stop the spammers from sending us this meaningless garbage.

With our increasing dependence upon email, messaging and the internet in recent years spam has grown exponentially, and has replaced malware (viruses and worms) and hacker damage as the number one cause of business loss.

A US survey conducted in October 2006 found that spam, when measured in terms of denial of service and productivity losses, accounted for a staggering $10.4 billion. By comparison, the damage from malware was $8.5 billion, and hacker damage from verifiable overt digital attacks caused less than $1 billion
of losses.

So while it's important to protect yourself against malware and the attentions of hackers, increasingly it's the sheer amount of time spent dealing with common spam that's costing us all money.

Of course, spam isn't just about unsolicited junk mail. It can carry viruses, spyware and phishing attacks, or employed to overload email servers and cause a denial of service (DoS) attack. Sadly, there's still plenty of people out there who'll open an unrecognised email attachment from the FBI, or what they think is their bank - with devastating consequences.

SMEs are the most vulnerable businesses to spam, since big enterprises tend to have dedicated filters in place to check both outbound and inbound emails. SMEs tend to rely upon proprietary software and hope the problem of spam will remain manageable.

Another solution is to filter emails off-site, but this can cause concerns about confidentiality and security. The only sure way to overcome the proliferation of spam is to pay for a system where a team of technicians around the world will analyse data and statistics from all clients using the system, to help build a pattern of traffic and employ counter measures.

Spammers never sleep, so spam fighters, utilising different time zones and massive collective processing power must operate 24/7.

So long as spammers make money -- and the Direct Marketing Association say email generates $32 billion in sales per
year -- there'll be only one loser in the never-ending battle between email administrators and spammers: the honest business.

Just as anti-crime laws don't prevent crime effectively, so anti-spam laws will not prevent spam. Only by staying one step ahead of the spammer, by constantly analysing data worldwide and applying remedies, will businesses be able to operate free from questionable financial offers and much worse.

Through the global partnership, MicroLogic will resell the suite of Rozmic services including Rozmic Spam and Virus Firewall and Rozmic Messenger in Michigan, with plans to expand into other regions in the near future. The Rozmic suite of managed services, spanning email, web and Instant Messaging, provides businesses with protection from viruses, spam, inappropriate images and other unwanted content without the burden or additional cost of traditional software or hardware solutions.

Dave Morrison, CEO at Micrologic sees Rozmic as a logical choice: ‘Rozmic is seen as a future market leader for managed security services in our market sector. Its stability and reliability is demanded by our high level clients, who need to know that they are dealing with a solid organisation that offers quality at an international level.’

‘Costs for managing security services ourselves and the accompanying investment in new technologies are too high,’ continues Morrison. ‘We can now offer a solution that intercepts all viruses and spam in email, web and Instant Messaging all over the world, long before they reach our clients’ networks.’

‘With Micrologic’s regional exposure and Rozmic’s expertise in providing security protection to businesses worldwide, our partnership is a perfect fit. Our agreement with Micrologic represents the continued focus and growth of Rozmic within the USA,’ said Ross Cooney, Technical Director at Rozmic. ‘Rozmic is committed to building partner relationships that identify and grow sales opportunities while providing market-leading, differentiated solutions that create competitive advantage.’

Rozmic Wireless and Wyenet partner to offer spam and virus scanning

Rozmic Wireless, a provider of ISP and corporate email protection services, and Wyenet, a pioneering ISP based in the West Midlands, have announced a partnership to deliver Rozmic Spam and Virus Firewall. Rozmic have recently opened offices in Canada, Germany and Australia to service demand for Rozmic Firewall which has been in development since 2002. The first order worth $12,000 was placed by a US company within days of the launch.

Virus and spam protection is nothing new but Rozmic have used the spammers techniques to defeat attacks. Until now most anti-virus products were installed on customers PCs and updated hourly. With a massive virus or spam attack this system is not up to the task of protecting a network.

The Rozmic Firewall is installed on a dedicated machine located in clients offices and all email is scanned before it reaches the recipients desktop. The installed machines are monitored in real time by Rozmic technicians around the world so data and statistics from all companies using the system help build a pattern of traffic worldwide.

This means Rozmic can predict, and prevent spam or virus attacks as they happen. If, for example one thousand users send the same attachment from PCs around the world, Rozmic will know something is wrong and head off the virus attack.

With Rozmic Firewall all e-mail and web traffic is kept and analysed inside the clients own infrastructure. Rozmic administrative servers analyse traffic patterns but do not read, redirect or copy clients e-mails or web traffic, thus ensuring absolute confidentiality.

Ross Cooney, Technical Director with Rozmic Wireless says: .With Rozmic Firewall we have developed a unique product aimed at users with over five hundred staff; and ISPs. Until now they have had to rely upon PC installed software or route all emails through a third party with the attendant security risks. Rozmic Firewall servers will scan email and web traffic at their location before delivering it to the recipients desktop. The more clients who use the system the more accurate our interpretation of worldwide spam and virus risk.

In 2005 Ross Cooney setup Netcleanse and Gwavix, the driving technology behind Rozmic Firewall and one of the most effective spam and virus protection systems on the market.
